How-to Tutorial

Step 1 Testing

This may be the most time consuming part of the process, especially for colour engraving.

Correct identification of colours requires using the material test array settings (as explained on this link). For best results follow the tutorial, ensuring the tips are adhered to. Expect to use some of your materials for the testing.

Once the test array has been created, engrave this file onto your material. Ensure that you set the height of the laser to 154mm, 4mm higher than that of the normal 150mm.

As you can see from my results, they vary on either side of the material. I chose to engrave on the brushed side, as the colours were more vivid.

Depending of the size of your test, depends on the array of colours.

Note down the settings for each of the colours that you want to use later.

Step 2 Finding the file.

Hopefully by this point you've already determined the image that you want to use.

By using AI or your browser search function, find an appropriate layered .svg file. Ensure that the layers do not overlap, as this will alter the colours of the final result. By using Adobe, Krita or other vector editing software you can adjust the image to the required design.

Step 3 Prepare the image on LDS and engraving.

Once you've determined the image, open it in LDS.

You will now have to determine which layer requires what colour from the details you got earlier.

I used the following:

Outline - 8k, Power 85, Depth 57,

Left - 8k, Power 70, Depth 45,

Right - 8k, Power 100, Depth 33,

Bottom - 8k, Power 85, Depth 23,

Main 1 - 8k, Power 85, Depth 33,

Main 2 - 8k, Power 70, Depth 33,

I ordered the files so that the outline layer was engraved last, that way the metal was as close to normal temperature, so not to affect the oxidisation, therefore altering the colour.

Enjoy your amazing design.
