When working with new materials for 3D relief engraving, it's crucial to understand how the material reacts to different grayscale depths. To help you identify the right engraving parameters and make grayscale adjustments, we've got you with this Relief Test Image.

How-to Tutorial

Step 1

What is this image for? This image is designed to help you test:

1. The depth variation produced by different grayscale values

2. How your material responds to gradual changes in tone

3. Whether you need to adjust your grayscale artwork or engraving parameters

How to use it:

1. Download the image or the .lp2 file and import it into your LDS PC.

2. Set your usual 3D embossing parameters (power, depth, frequency, resolution, etc.).

3. Export as LPB file and save it to the flash drive.

4. Insert the flash drive into the machine.

5. Go back to the PC software and click the flash drive icon. (Alternatively, you can connect the LP5 to the LDS mobile app for embossing.)

7. Find the file and preview it.

8. Engrave it on your new material (e.g., wood, metal etc.).

Step 2

Observe the result:

Does the depth change smoothly from dark to light?

Are some areas too shallow or too deep?

Are the lightest tones even visible?

Based on your observation:

Tweak your laser settings (power, depth, resolution) or adjust your grayscale artwork (boost contrast or shift tones)
