Multilayered Gorilla Design – Basswood & Colored Sheets
How-to
This multilayered gorilla artwork was created using basswood and two sheets of colored paper (gold and rainbow), cut with precision on my LaserPecker LP5. Each layer was individually cut and stacked to achieve a striking 3D effect. The result is a bold and vibrant design, perfect as a wall piece or decorative element.

How-to Tutorial
Step 1 Cutting the Wooden Layers
How to do it
To create this multilayered gorilla project, there are 3 ZIP folders available for download:
- SVG GORILA.zip Contains 6 SVG files, each one representing a different layer of the gorilla artwork.
- BASSWOOD 2MM CUT SETTINGS.zip Includes LaserPecker project files with predefined dimensions and cut settings. I used basswood sheets with 2mm thickness, sized 150mm x 100mm.
- PAPER CUT SETTINGS.zip Contains 2 LaserPecker project files for cutting the paper layers. I used two colored paper sheets: one gold and one rainbow. For this version, I selected only 2 layers to cut in paper.
Step-by-step:
- Open the LaserPecker software.
- Open one of the SVG, click on the “FILL” tab at the top.
- Set the dimensions as you prefer, but remember to apply the same size and settings for all wooden layers.
- Use the engraving/cutting parameters shown in the example image.
- If you have an air purifier, turn it on, basswood cutting produces smoke.

Step 2 Cutting the Colored Paper Layers
How to Cut the Colored Paper Layers
- Select the layers you want to cut in colored paper. You can cut all of them and glue each one on top of its corresponding wooden layer, or just pick 1, 2, or as many as you prefer.
- Use the settings shown in the paper cutting reference images.
- When placing the sheet paper on the LaserPecker base, make sure the colored side is facing down (check the exemplification image). This helps prevent scorching or damaging the visible surface, resulting in a cleaner finish.
- After cutting, carefully remove the small details using a needle. Take your time, precision makes a difference!

Step 3 Glue them all!
Assembling the Layers with Glue
- Apply glue to the each layer.
- Carefully place it on top of the base layer and align the edges.
- Repeat the process for each remaining layer, one by one, always aligning carefully before pressing down.
- Let it dry completely. In the end, you'll have a finished piece just like the one shown in the photo!
