My wife likes bottles - Borjomi bottles in particular. I've been playing with engraving bottles for quite a while and I have finally been able to get a good dark black engraving on a glass bottle. This is nothing new, except nobody ever told me how much TiO2 to use.

Basic Information

MachineLP4
MaterialGlass
Size150 x 213 mm
Material InformationBorjomi Mineral Water Glass Bottle, Elmer's School Glue, TiO2 - Earthborn Elements from Amazon (Note All TiO2 is not the same)
Production Time60 min
Engraving Difficulty
Firmware version >=655

How-to Tutorial

Step 1 Mix TiO2 solution and Coat the bottle with four coats

It speeds things up a lot to use an electric heater or fan to dry the coating faster.

Step 2 Engrave

Mount the bottle on the rotary. Move the first section for the engraving to the Design Space. Hide the other two sections.  Set the radius, and hide the outline and radius of the selected section. Using the Preview, set the focus and the location to be engraved. Repeat for the middle section, then the top section, The angle of the bottle has to be changed to level the last section.

After the engraving is complete, wash the coating off with warm water. A toothbrush works pretty good for this. You should get a good black engraving.

Another tip for engraving bottles: Brown glass bottles being engraved using the black tempera method MUST be completely filled with water or the bottle will crack.
